An Evening of Practical Magic is a special event recognizing the generous supporters that embody City Harvest’s combination of the everyday and the extraordinary. The event is supported by Barclays Capital and a donor through FJC, a Foundation of Philanthropic Funds, and as a result, 100% of the ticket price will directly support the efforts of City Harvest to feed hungry New Yorkers.

The fundraiser will treat guests to a special night of cocktails and silent auction, followed by an elegant dinner and live auction. In 2009, the event attracted 500 people and raised $1 million for the organization and its programs.

On Your Plate will treat guests to an elegant lunch followed by a talk and panel discussion with guest speaker, Silda Wall Spitzer. Last year’s event attracted over 200 guests and raised almost $230,000 to support City Harvest’s work feeding New York’s hungry.

Silda Wall Spitzer is the founding chair of Children for Children, a not-for-profit through which more than 200,000 young people volunteer across the country and globally annually. At the event, Ms. Spitzer will speak to the importance of service and encouraging the next generation to continue the missions of important organizations in the city. Bid Against Hunger

October 20th, 2009

City Harvest would like to thank everyone who made Bid Against Hunger such an ovewhelming success! Hundreds of guests and more than 70 chefs helped us raise over $730,000 on Tuesday night -- enough to help feed over 10,000 people for an entire year! The success of events like Bid Against Hunger are critical for City Harvest, especially at a time when more and more of our neighbors are turning to food pantries and soup kitchens to feed their families.

Extra special thanks go to those of you who took part in our auction. I know many of us in the room are envious of your once-in-a-lifetime private cooking class with Tom Colicchio and your amazing culinary experience with Eric Ripert and Aldo Sohm.

Summer in the City

June 23rd, 2009

On June 23rd, 500 tastemakers packed the Metropolitan Pavilion for a sold-out Summer in the City, Generation Harvest’s tasting and cocktail party for young professionals.  Guests bid on once-in-a-lifetime silent auction prizes as they enjoyed cocktails and tasting portions of signature dishes from 34 of the city's hottest restaurants.

VIP guests enjoyed a live Cuban band, red and white sangria bar, and cigar roller in the VIP Cuban Lounge hosted by Victor's Café, plus special cooking demos by chefs including Alexandra Guarnaschelli, Ron Ben-Israel, and Jason Neroni!  Backed by the karaoke band from Arlene's Grocery, chefs in attendance treated the crowd to a very special performance toward the end of the evening, while DJ $mall ¢hange kept everyone moving.  Guests were even able to share their thoughts on Twitter with live tweeting throughout the night.

This year's Summer in the City raised over $200,000, which will help City Harvest rescue and deliver over 714,000 pounds of much-needed food to agencies feeding hungry New Yorkers.

Bistro Crawl

May 16th, 2009

Twenty-seven teams of four joined City Harvest and Benoit on May 16th for our first-ever Bistro Crawl, hitting up bistros around the city which included Artisanal Fromagerie and Bistro, Brasserie Cognac, Café D’Alsace, Cercle Rouge, Marseille, and Nice Matin, before heading to a finish-line party at Benoit. At each stop, teams enjoyed tasting portions and drinks and received tokens for each bistro-related question they answered correctly, checking Twitter for clues and tweeting their own updates.

The teams that arrived at Benoit with all six tokens were entered into a drawing to win five gift certificates for the bistros of their choice, with the second prize team winning the remaining four gift certificates. The Bistro Crawl supports City Harvest’s work rescuing food for hungry New Yorkers. Congratulations to all of our teams and thank you for a fun (and very French) afternoon fighting hunger!

On Your Plate

May 13th, 2009
The Metropolitan Club

Thank you to guests of City Harvest's fifth annual On Your Plate luncheon.  In just one afternoon, City Harvest was able to raise more than $225,000 in support of our work – critical at a time when more New Yorkers are finding themselves in line for emergency food.  This year City Harvest honored David Patrick Columbia for putting the fight against hunger on the pages of New York Social Diary.

David Patrick Columbia joined City Harvest at the Metropolitan Club for an entertaining and informative interview followed by a question and answer session with the audience. This year's luncheon attracted over 200 guests.  City Harvest is especially grateful to event co-chairs Carol Atkinson, Joy Ingham, Emilia Saint-Amand, and Topsy Taylor for making On Your Plate a success.

An Evening of Practical Magic

April 22nd, 2009
Cipriani's 42nd Street

Nearly 500 guests joined City Harvest at Cipriani 42nd Street on April 22nd, taking action to respond to rising need at food pantries and soup kitchens across the city. In just one evening, City Harvest was able to raise $1 million to help feed families struggling to put food on the table during these difficult times.

An Evening of Practical Magic paid tribute to twelve individuals and organizations that each provided steadfast support of City Harvest's mission in their own unique way. Host David Arquette joined forces with Rachael Ray, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and Miss USA Kristen Dalton to present a moving program, followed by a heartfelt performance from musicians Rob Thomas and Marc Shaiman, directed by Adam Shankman. Crishell Stause and Kelly Killoren Bensimon helped add sparkle to the evening. Best of all, because dinner costs for An Evening of Practical Magic were underwritten by Credit Suisse, with all other costs underwritten by City Harvest Board of Directors and event co-chairs, 100% of each ticket could directly support City Harvest’s work.

As part of the exciting live auction, Chef Eric Ripert pulled out all of the stops, raising $45,000 by agreeing to personally prepare a meal at home for one lucky bidder and his 25 guests. Others from the food community standing with City Harvest in the fight against hunger included Marc Murphy, Josh Emett, Tracy Nieporent, Aldo Sohm, Anne Saxelby, Alexandra Guarnaschelli, and Dana Cowin. Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, along with Speaker Quinn, also renewed his commitment to making sure no one in our city has to worry about their next meal.

In addition to hearing a speech from a City Harvest driver, guests were able to view New York Is Hungry, a video showing some of what many of the people City Harvest serves are going through in our troubled economy.
