City Harvest is pleased to administer, and serve as a convener of the NYC Food and Fitness Partnership. The Partnership is one of nine community locations funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation through a multi-year grant, and over the next three years, City Harvest will work with community groups to sustain and expand the growing national movement for healthy food and active living. While the policy and system and changes will reach all of NYC, the specific geography we are focusing on is in central Brooklyn.
The Partnership is part of the W. K Kellogg Foundation Food and Community Program. The program invests in community to improve school food, transform food and physical activity environments, and shape a national movement so that all children thrive.

City Harvest is pleased to administer, and serve as a convener of the NYC Food and Fitness Partnership, a collaboration of the Brooklyn Rescue Mission, Transportation Alternatives and City Harvest. The conveners use their influence, knowledge and institutional relationships to advance the work outlined in the Partnership’s Community Action Plan and Policy and System Change Targets. The conveners have the duty to ensure that the work achieves its goals and objectives with the integrity and intention outlined in the proposal and endorsed by the Kellogg Foundation
The Role of City Harvest as Grantee and Administrator: The W.K. Kellogg Foundation awarded the NYC Food and Fitness Partnership grant to City Harvest as the Administrator because City Harvest is the federally-designated tax exempt entity with sufficient capacity and experience to manage a large foundation grant. In this role, City Harvest has the responsibility of fully and appropriately accounting for the proper use of the grant funds in terms of both financial accountability and programmatic accountability.
Our Food & Fitness collaborative is part of a new program at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation called Food & Community. Building on past investments of nearly $80 million, the Kellogg Foundation has committed another $32.5 million to create healthier kids and communities over the next three years. Our Partnership is honored to be a part of the new W.K. Kellogg Foundation Food & Community Program.
Food & Community focuses on creating healthy places where all children thrive. Through this program, the Kellogg Foundation will invest in efforts to increase access to good food and opportunities for physical activity.
