2016 State of the State Address

On January 13, Governor Cuomo provided his State of the State Address and there are some really important wins for the people we serve!

Most importantly, the Governor plans to increase eligibility for the SNAP program.  Across the country, persons are eligible for SNAP if they earn 130% of the poverty line.  Now, in New York State, that eligibility is 150%, which will extend eligibility to about 750,000 households.  This will deliver about $688.5 M in additional benefits to New Yorkers with an estimated economic impact of $1.27 B. City Harvest is convening the New York City Alliance for Child Nutrition Reauthorization, a group of diverse stakeholders working together for a strong Child Nutrition Act. We are leading an action campaign for New Yorkers to engage in this debate to ensure passage of a strong Child Nutrition bill. Click here to learn more about the Alliance.
