Right now, Congress is debating a new Farm Bill that includes changes that would dramatically weaken the Supplemental Nutrition Access Program (), which is the cornerstone of our nation’s nutrition assistance safety net and is critical in helping low-income children and families get the food and nutrition they need.
Cuts to SNAP would mean that millions of New Yorkers and people across the country who depend on it will struggle even more to feed themselves and their families.
City Harvest is working hard each day to rescue and deliver food for our neighbors in need, butin our city and around the country is simply too big to address without national government programs that are proven to provide vital nutrition to families struggling to make ends meet. For every meal that the network provides, SNAP provides 12 meals.
As legislation progresses, we will continue to work with Feeding America and our local, state, and federal elected officials and advocate for a bill that protects SNAP and food access for everyone across our country.
