January 22 Executive Actions on SNAP and P-EBT
On Friday, January 22, President Biden signed an executive order supporting the expansion of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for millions of people in our city and across the country, and an increase in P-EBT for all children in public school.
We are heartened by this important step toward ensuring food secure futures for everyone in our country; however, much more must be done. The Public Charge rule—a harmful policy that discourages immigrants in our city and across the country from accessing SNAP benefits—is still in effect.
We believe that food is a basic right, and no one should have to choose between putting food on the table and living in our city and country, especially during these challenging times.
We will continue to rescue and deliver good food for our neighbors in need and advocate for policies that protect every New Yorker, doing all we can to make sure everyone in our city has access to fresh, affordable food for themselves and their families.
