Hunger Action Month

Thank You for Standing with City Harvest to Help Feed NYC

The need for food assistance in our city is staggeringly high. Nearly 50% of working-aged New Yorkers are struggling to make ends meet, and new data from Feeding America show that 1 in 5 New Yorkers faces food insecurity, up from 1 in 6 the previous year. At the same time, historic cuts to federal food assistance programs passed last summer continue to go into effect with devastating impacts. Nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers could see their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits decrease, and new work-reporting requirements could cause 120,000 New Yorkers to lose access to their SNAP benefits entirely.

In response to the high need we’re seeing, City Harvest is stepping up to rescue 100 million pounds of high-quality food that would otherwise go to waste and deliver it to over 400 food pantries, soup kitchens, and community partners across the five boroughs.

Thank you for coming together this September to ensure that every New Yorker has access to the nutritious food they need to thrive. Special thanks to generous friend of City Harvest, Denise Littlefield Sobel, for matching all gifts, dollar-for-dollar, from September 1 to September 30, in honor of Hunger Action Month, to help us rescue and deliver twice as much food for our neighbors.
