Hunger Action Month

This September, Stand with City Harvest to Help Feed NYC

The need for food assistance in New York City is the highest on record, according to a City Harvest analysis of FeedNYC data, and we anticipate the need continuing to grow. Because of recent historic cuts to federal food assistance programs, nearly 1.8 million New Yorkers could see their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program (SNAP) benefits decrease, and 200,000 New Yorkers, particularly aging adults, could lose access entirely. New Yorkers are also bracing for the largest cut to Medicaid in the program history, putting an even greater strain on food insecure households.

We must do more to ensure that every New Yorker has access to the fresh, nutritious food they need to thrive. This year, we will rescue and deliver more than 86 million pounds of perfectly good food that would otherwise go to waste and deliver it, free of charge, to 400 food pantries, soup kitchens, and community programs across the five boroughs. You can play a critical role in helping to feed our NYC neighbors in need. Join us and take action this Hunger Action Month.

A generous friend of City Harvest, Denise Littlefield Sobel, is matching all gifts, dollar-for-dollar, from September 1 to September 30, up to $250,000, in honor of Hunger Action Month, to help us rescue and deliver twice as much food for our neighbors.
