2014 Self Sufficiency Standard Report
City Harvest and our partners – the New York Community Trust, the United Way of New York City and the Women’s Center for Education and Career Advancement – have opened a dialogue in our city with the 2014 Self-Sufficiency Standard Report.
The report shows that 42% of New York City households lack the income needed to cover necessities like food, shelter, clothing, transportation, and health care. In fact, food costs have increased across New York City by 59% since 2000, while the median earnings of working adults have increased by only 17%.
City Harvest relies on research from the Self-Sufficiency Report to better understand the demands faced by our network of over 500 community food programs, and further develop our comprehensive feeding plan to reach as many residents in need as possible.
